Why Travel Channel Has Lost It's Soul...

The Travel Channel of today has become less about the beauty and art of travel and seemingly more about the amenities of a destination. All you have to do is take a look at their programming. For example show's like Glamping, the World's Best, and Extreme with voice over's that are reminiscent of the uppity sounding British narrator of VH1's  The Fabulous Life Of series makes me feel like I'm watching advertisements.

Ok... looks nice, but what's even the point?
Then there is the Triple A food triumvirate: Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and Adam Richman. Now, I like all three of these guys and if I do watch TC it's usually the first two more than it is Man vs. Food. Eating is an integral part to traveling and is a way to immerse yourself in the local scene, but what does stuffing one's face full of a seven pound burrito or drinking a two gallon milkshake have to do with travel?
Only in America!
I guess it would just be nice to see Travel Channel branch out from their typical format and show the other ways of travel besides the usual resorts and hotels. I'm not going to hold my breath. It's up to the talented and independent travel bloggers on the interwebs to educate and inspire us!
